Sun Cities Saddle Club History

The club was established in 1970 by an enthusiastic group of horse-lovers.  The Del Webb Corporation provided facilities – for meetings and with horse stalls for the horse owners.  The club was named the Sun City Horse and Carriage Club.  Those members who were not riders made up the Carriage part of the title.  Horse owners kept their mounts at the Sun City Stables, located between Sun City and Sun City West.  The stables remain today, south on 114th Avenue at Bell Road.

Initially, monthly business meetings were held at the Town Hall in Sun City (now Fairway Recreation Center).  All members belonged to the Sun City Community Association and a charter was granted to the club in January 1971.

As time passed, the membership changed but the spirit of the group has continued to be friendly and enthusiastic, with members united by a common love of horses.  In 1985, the club’s name was officially changed to the Sun Cities Saddle Club to include membership from all of the Sun Cities.  Meetings are still held in Sun City but the club is no longer a chartered club, due to its less restrictive membership policy.

Club members continue to enjoy exploring Arizona on horseback and experience the Sonora desert in a unique way.  After 45 years, we are still looking forward to many happy trails in the years to come!
